What can I expect from a StoryBrand implementation?

You've read StoryBrand and are excited about the methodology. The theory sounds logical and the examples are clear. Maybe you've even attended a workshop and created a BrandScript. Now you are ready to implement StoryBrand in your organization and you could use some help. You have seen that we can help you with this, but still have all kinds of practical questions:
- How much time does such a StoryBrand implementation take?
- Who should you involve?
- Specifically, what does it get you?
As a StoryBrand-certified guide, I have already guided several companies through the implementation process. I know the pitfalls that organizations encounter and know exactly what it takes to make an implementation successful. From small businesses to large corporates, in different industries - the approach remains the same, only the interpretation differs.
In this article, I take you step by step through the implementation process. You'll learn exactly what to expect: from the preparations and the six implementation sessions to the concrete results it gives you. After reading this article, you'll know exactly what's involved in a StoryBrand implementation and can make an informed decision about whether your organization is ready.
It is important to keep momentum in your StoryBrand implementation - too much time between sessions can get in the way of a successful implementation.
How do you prepare for a StoryBrand implementation?
It begins with a private workshop
Each implementation process starts with a private workshop by our sister company StoryBrand Netherlands. During this workshop you will develop your BrandScript together with your team. This is the foundation for the rest of the implementation and without it we cannot start.
Who should you involve in your StoryBrand implementation?
Having the right people on board is crucial to successful implementation:
- The key decision maker(s) within your organization
- Your marketing team or manager
- Any content creators or copywriters
- Your web designer or developer (for the wireframes)
Each implementation process begins with a StoryBrand workshop.
How much time does a StoryBrand implementation take?
A StoryBrand implementation takes an average of two months.
This includes:
- Six implementation sessions (including results session after one to two months)
- Time for content creation between sessions
- Feedback and refinement
Sometimes organizations need more time, such as due to internal processes or unforeseen circumstances. It's important to keep momentum, though - too much time between sessions can get in the way of implementation success.
The six sessions of a StoryBrand implementation
Session 1: Kick-off with baseline measurement
We start with a clear baseline measurement and setting your goals. These objectives are not sales targets, but are about what you want to have achieved by when with the implementation. For example: when do you want which components implemented?
Session 2: BrandScript and oneliner
In this session we check your BrandScript and refine where necessary. Often we see that optimizations are still possible after the workshop. For example, we look at word choice based on SEO research. We also develop your one-liners - a general one and two others. The one-liner says in one paragraph what problem your organization solves, what the solution is and what result you deliver.
Session 3: Wireframe homepage
A StoryBrand implementation includes wireframes for your homepage, about us page, opt-in page, sales page, thank you page and contact page. A wireframe is a representation of the layout and layout of a page, which you can fill with your own content.
Additionally, for an additional cost, you can add additional wireframes for other pages. In session 3, we'll work out the homepage together based on the BrandScript, so you'll understand how you can (have) fill in the other pages yourself.
After implementation, you will have wireframes for your homepage, about us page, sales page, opt-in page, contact page and thank you page.
Session 4: Lead generator and email campaigns.
We'll train you in creating an effective lead generator and email campaigns (opt-in, sales and nurture). You'll learn what components are needed and how to use them to reach and convert your target audience.
Session 5: Content refinement
This is a hands-on work session where we go over all the components created. We review the wireframes, lead generator and email campaigns, as well as the oneliner. During this session, we check consistency and make sure everything fits perfectly with the StoryBrand framework.
Session 6: Results analysis
One to two months after implementation, we look at the results. We analyze how the various components are performing, whether the results match your expectations and where optimization is still possible.
This is what a StoryBrand implementation gets you
After implementation, you will have a comprehensive set of wireframes for your website, including at least a wireframe for your homepage, about us page, sales page, opt-in page, contact page and thank you page.
You also have powerful one-liners that you can use for different purposes, a lead generator and nurture and sales emails.
Finally, you will gain an in-depth understanding of the StoryBrand framework and develop the skills to create your own marketing and sales statements using the framework in the future.
Here's how to make a success of your StoryBrand implementation
Several factors are important for successful implementation.
First of all, it is crucial to have commitment from your entire team and allow sufficient time between sessions. Maintaining momentum in the process is essential, as is consistently implementing the feedback you receive. Consistency in your message is the common thread here.
There are some pitfalls to watch out for during the implementation process:
- Don't let too much time pass between sessions
- Don't lose yourself in the pursuit of perfection - rather focus on progression
- Avoid the tendency to put off implementation until "the perfect moment
- Be reluctant to make too many modifications to standard wireframes
Finally, some practical tips:
For smooth running, it is wise to schedule the sessions in your calendar in advance and make sure the right people are available.
Include sufficient time in your planning for actual implementation as well. It helps to collect all the necessary content in advance and set up a system for feedback and iterations.
Organizations that begin implementation well prepared achieve the best results.
A successful StoryBrand implementation starts with the right preparation
A StoryBrand implementation is a valuable but intensive process that helps your organization communicate your marketing message clearly and effectively. By attending the six sessions and engaging the right people, you will not only develop concrete marketing materials, but also build knowledge and skills that you can use on an ongoing basis.
As a StoryBrand-certified guide, I see time and again that organizations that begin implementation well prepared achieve the best results. It's not about perfection, it's about progression - and you achieve that through commitment from your team, realistic planning and a willingness to apply what you've learned immediately.
